Gachi Prieto Gallery presents Wild Decade/Década Salvaje, a show featuring CHU, DEFI, NASA, PMP y TEC, 5 recognized personalities within the Street Art scene, which is celebrating its 10° anniversary in Buenos Aires.
Around 2001 these five artists had a leading role in the birth of Street Art in Argentina, an inspiring movement which came to life as a direct means of communication with the spectators during turbulent times, as it generated alternatives to the scarcity of galleries to show their works. Although public places had always had some kind of intervention from occasional taggers, in the past decade the walls of Argentina’s capital have become the collective canvas for a boom in street art – works meant to beautify public places in a new way. Without any sponsoring, these kids started to paint and paint, for the pure sake of it and their wish to fill the city with colors to uplift their countrymen with art. They felt their individual contribution was a way of collective survival from the choking social gray. Spontaneously, animals, friends and the street became the material from which this movement (a synthesis of illustration, motion graphic, music and experimentation) brings about explosions of colors and the search for reaction.
